Linnea’s only safe place is a spot on the rocky shoreline where the water can be rather vicious. It’s here where she meets, and falls in love with, a mermaid named Mren. As their romance blossoms, the escalating harassment from Linnea’s ex-boyfriend Mikey threatens the secret relationship. Mren has vowed to protect Linnea, but she’s confined to the water and Mikey is a land monster. Meanwhile, Linnea will do anything to keep Mren safe from him.

This was a really cute, quick read. I preordered it because I saw a glowing recommendation from Jen (Bookavid) and I had to read it. I’m a sucker for anything mermaid and wlw together and this was right up my alley. Linnea is a bisexual MC with an abusive ex-boyfriend who continues to stalk and confronting her even after a restraining order and lock changes. She meets the mermaid Mren on one of her daily trips to a dangerous rocky cliff where she watches the water. As their romance blooms, the ex becomes more and more suspicious and things begin to escalate.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novella and I only had a few issues. One is that I think that Linnea and Mren’s relationship went really fast. I wish there was more time to establish Mren’s personality and watch Linnea grow away from her abuser. The other is a minor spoiler, so I won’t say anything here. Feel free to message me on Twitter or Instagram if you want to talk about it.
