Wrap Ups

Monthly Wrap Up: August 2018

Ah, another month gone. This was a weird month. It went by so fast but also felt like a drag.

Read and reviewed in August (with review links):

Mostly comics this month. I’ve been in another rut and nothing is really getting me out of it.

36982587Nightingale by Amy Lukavics

1951, a girl, June, has graduated high school and is ready to become a writer… until she has a nervous breakdown when she thinks her parents have been replaced by something, something extraterrestrial.

Paper Girls Vol 1-4 by Brian K. Vaughn28204534

It’s 1988. Four girls are out on their usual paper routes in the early morning after Halloween, but it doesn’t stay usual for long.

25074849Bitch Planet Vol 1 by Kelly Sue DeConnick

The world is overwhelmingly patriarchal. Women who do anything not deemed proper or are non-compliant are sent to prison on another planet. What starts as a way to gain more support for the planet will turn into a rebellion.

Ice Massacre by Tiana Warner22718724

On an island off the west coast of Canada, a village of people are suffering at the hands of mermaids, luring and killing their fisherman. Meela and 19 other girls will go out to sea to cull them, but Meela has a secret, she has feelings for a mermaid and she will have to choose between her people and her feelings.
review (old)-

I absolutely LOVE this series. I think I’m on reread 6 of this one. It’s my go-to when I’m in a slump or feeling bad. Meela and Lysi just give me super feels and I love them so much.

Ice Crypt by Tiana WarnerPageflex Persona [document: PRS0000037_00039]

Meela is back from the Massacre with new information on the mermaids. Unfortunately, no one but a few friends believe her. Lysi, on the other hand, is doing her best to survive on the mermen side of battle, under the sea. Will our favorite girls be reunited or will this war tear them apart?
review (old)-

I think this one is my favorite of the trilogy. We get Lysi’s POV in this one and learn about how the merms live underwater and how extensive the war actually is. Also the ending is just perfect.

Tiana Warner & April Pierce

Keep an eye out for Ice Massacre: The Graphic Novel coming this winter! Author Tiana Warner and artist April Pierce are working together to create a Patreon and releasing a page a week with the hopes of earning enough to print hard copies. Check out Tiana’s post for more info and 7 pages of the upcoming comic! Here’s my favorite page! It’s actually my lock screen on my phone right now xD. LOOK AT MY BEST GIRLS AHH I’M IN LOVE

Book & eARC Haul:

  • Sea Witch by Sarah Henning
  • Plastic by Doug Wagner

I actually had that I bought no books this month, and then I went to the store the other day and picked some up. Oops xD

I also bought and IT bookmark that has 17+ on the back. I’m wondering if people 17 or older are allowed to buy it. Kinda weird to have an age on a bookmark.

Micro Reviews

I started the Micro Review tag and well, it’s going slow, to say the least, but I’m gonna keep at it!

Micro Review Archive – which I keep updated monthly
Micro Review 1.1: August 6, 2018
Micro Review 1.2: August 20, 2018

Please feel free to participate, even in older ones. I post mine on the first and third Mondays of the month. There will be a new prompt September 1.

GenCon 2018

As per usual, I went to GenCon again this year. It’s a HUGE board game/tabletop convention with so much stuff to play and do. I met a Brigitte on the first day and she was so nice! I also got to try Dragons Breath, the weird cereal balls frozen with liquid nitrogen. They didn’t really taste like much, but they were fun to eat! I also played my first RPG, a one-off of Paranoia, and I didn’t die or anything and it was pretty fun! We left kind of early because we were all worn out by the end of day 2, after walking for about 6 hours straight.
